A Song Everyday

Katie Kreider
16 min readSep 14, 2020

Music has been such a big part of my life for so long, so I knew I wanted to incorporate it into my Make Everyday Project. I decided to choose a song each day and design my own cover art for it. In doing so, I wanted to capture the essence and emotion behind each song. I am pretty new to Illustrator, so I chose this as a way to both complete this project in a way that made me excited about my work, while learning a new skill at the same time. Here’s how it all turned out:

Love You For a Long Time, By Maggie Rogers

Came in like a vision from the old west wind
Like a bright new dream that I was stepping in
I saw your face and I knew it was a sign
And I still think about that moment all of the time

You know that I could never make this up
I found the reason I’m not giving up
I felt the fever and I knew he was mine
Oh I, I’m gonna love you for a long time

And in the morning when I’m waking up
I swear that you’re the first thing that I’m thinking of
I feel it in my body, know it in my mind
Oh I, I’m gonna love you for a long time
I’m gonna love you for a long time
I’m gonna love you for a long time

Oh, I never knew it, yeah, you took me by surprise
While I was getting lost so deep inside your diamond eyes
So many things that I still wanna say
And if devotion is a river, then I’m floating away

And in the morning when you pick me up
And all the world is quiet, ‘cept the mourning dove
I feel it in my body, know it in my mind
Oh I, I’m gonna love you for a long time
I’m gonna love you for a long time
I’m gonna love you for a long time

Ooh, don’t slow down now, gonna break me down
Keep your hands in my hair, keep your mouth on my mouth
Don’t slow this down, never let me go
Baby, don’t you wanna see how far this thing can go?

And in the morning when you wake me up
I know that forever could never be enough
I feel it in my body, know it in my mind
Oh I, I’m gonna love you for a long time
I’m gonna love you for a long time
I’m gonna love you for a long time
For a long time

Oh, I’m gonna love you for a long time
Ooh, I’m gonna love you for a long time
Yeah, I’m gonna love you for a long time
Won’t you keep me, let me love you for a long time?
For a long, long, long, long time
I’m gonna love you for a long time

Losing My Edge, By LCD Soundsystem

Yeah, I’m losing my edge.
I’m losing my edge.
The kids are coming up from behind.
I’m losing my edge.
I’m losing my edge to the kids from France and from London.
But I was there.

I was there in 1968.
I was there at the first Can show in Cologne.
I’m losing my edge.
I’m losing my edge to the kids whose footsteps I hear when they get on the decks.
I’m losing my edge to the Internet seekers who can tell me every member of every good group from 1962 to 1978.
I’m losing my edge.

To all the kids in Tokyo and Berlin.
I’m losing my edge to the art-school Brooklynites in little jackets and borrowed nostalgia for the unremembered eighties.

But I’m losing my edge.
I’m losing my edge, but I was there.
I was there.
But I was there.

I’m losing my edge.
I’m losing my edge.
I can hear the footsteps every night on the decks.
But I was there.
I was there in 1974 at the first Suicide practices in a loft in New York City.
I was working on the organ sounds with much patience.
I was there when Captain Beefheart started up his first band.
I told him, “Don’t do it that way. You’ll never make a dime.”
I was there.
I was the first guy playing Daft Punk to the rock kids.
I played it at CBGB’s.
Everybody thought I was crazy.
We all know.
I was there.
I was there.
I’ve never been wrong.

Echoes, By Roosevelt

I’m running away
With you on my mind
Yeah, I need to get out of this
Out of your sight

You’re beginning to play
Your tricks on my mind
Can we find a way out of this?
Got to win the fight

When time has no meaning
Lost in a feeling
Where do we go from here?

Where’s your devotion?
Strangest emotion
You made it reappear

I still hear the echoes
Feels like we’re slipping away
But maybe tonight we can
Leave the past behind
I still hear the echoes
Feels like we’re slipping away
Yeah, maybe tonight we can
Leave it all behind

I remember a time
With you by my side
Bringing back all the memory
Start to fall apart

Committed a crime
As dark as the night
You know you were the remedy
To my broken heart

When time has no meaning
Lost in a feeling
Where do we go from here?

Where’s your devotion?
Strangest emotion
You made it reappear

I still hear the echoes
Feels like we’re slipping away
But maybe tonight we can
Leave the past behind
I still hear the echoes
Feels like we’re slipping away
Yeah, maybe tonight we can
Leave it all behind

In the haze of the sun
Don’t fall behind
Let’s make this right
Back to where it begun
’Cause in these golden lights
We’ll come alive

In the haze of the sun
Don’t fall behind
Let’s make this right
Back to where it begun
’Cause in these golden lights
We’ll come alive

Lost In Yesterday, By Tame Impala

When we were livin’ in squalor, wasn’t it heaven?
Back when we used to get on it four out of seven
Now even though that was a time I hated from day one
Eventually terrible memories turn into great ones

So if they call you
Embrace them
If they hold you
Erase them

’Cause it might’ve been something, who’s to say?
Does it help to get lost in yesterday?
And you might’ve missed something, don’t say
’Cause it has to be lost in yesterday
And you’re gonna have to let it go someday
You’ve been diggin’ it up like Groundhog Day
’Cause it might’ve been something, don’t say
’Cause it has to be lost in yesterday

Matty said life didn’t go the way that he planned it
Said, “Oh, what I’d give to start over, boy I’d command it”
So what was I ever afraid of? Why did I worry?
And why was I ever so brainless? Head in a flurry

’Cause they call you
Embrace them
If they stall you
Erase them

’Cause it might’ve been something, who’s to say?
Does it help to get lost in yesterday?
And you might’ve missed something, don’t say
’Cause it has to be lost in yesterday
And you’re gonna have to let it go someday
You’ve been pickin’ it up like Groundhog Day
’Cause it might’ve been something, don’t say
’Cause it has to be lost in yesterday

If it calls you
Embrace it
If it haunts you
Face it

I know it’s mad, I understand
It’s only snakes and ladders
The period you never had
There’s only one that matters

And if it calls you
Embrace it
If it holds you
Erase it
Erase it

Bodies, By The Knocks

It’s another suburban summer
The street lights blink on
If you’re passing the house on the corner
You’d think no one’s home

But when I feel that resonation
Waving with the weight
Grown bodies in the basement
And when you swing my way
Won’t wait, no way, no way
Warm bodies in the basement

When I feel that 808 go
Waving with the weight
Grown bodies in the basement
And when you swing my way
Won’t wait, no way, no way
Warm bodies in the basement

Your body on mine
Body and mind
My body’s in the basement
Your body on mine
Body and mind
Bodies in the basement

I’m still thinking about that summer
Lying awake all alone
Keep on passing the house on the corner
But there’s nobody home

But when I feel that resonation
Waving with the weight
Grown bodies in the basement
And when you swing my way
Won’t wait, no way, no way
Warm bodies in the basement

When I feel that 808 go
Waving with the weight
Grown bodies in the basement
And when you swing my way
Won’t wait, no way, no way
Warm bodies in the basement

Your body on mine
Body and mind
My body’s in the basement

Your body on mine
Body and mind
My body’s in the basement
Your body on mine
Body and mind
Bodies in the basement

Oh wait, oh wait, oh wait
No way, no way, no way
No way, no way, no way, no
Oh wait, oh wait, oh wait
No way, no way, no way
My body’s in the basement

Kyoto, By Phoebe Bridgers

Day off in Kyoto
I got bored at the temple
Looked around at the 7–11
The band took the speed train
Went to the arcade
I wanted to go but I didn’t
You called me from a payphone
They still got pay phones
It cost a dollar a minute
To tell me you’re getting sober
And you wrote me a letter
But I don’t have to read it
I’m gonna kill you
If you don’t beat me to it
Dreaming through Tokyo skies
I wanted to see the world
Then I flew over the ocean
And I changed my mind
Sunset’s been a freak show
On the weekend
So I’ve been driving out to the suburbs
To park at the Goodwill
And stare at the chem trails
With my little brother
He said you called on his birthday
You were off by like ten days
But you get a few points for trying
Remember getting the truck fixed
When you let us drive it
Twenty-five felt like flying
I don’t forgive you
But please don’t hold me to it
Born under Scorpio skies
I wanted to see the world
Through your eyes until it happened
Then I changed my mind
Guess I lied
I’m a liar
Who lies
’Cause I’m a liar

Fast Slow Disco, By St. Vincent

I sway in place to a slow disco
And a glass for the saints and a bow for the road

Am I thinking what everybody’s thinkin’?
I’m so glad I came, but I can’t wait to leave?

Slip my hand from your hand
Leave you dancin’ with a ghost
Slip my hand from your hand
Leave you dancin’ with a ghost

There’s blood in my ears and a fool in the mirror
And the bay of mistakes couldn’t get any clearer

Am I thinking what everybody’s thinkin’?
I’m so glad I came, but I can’t wait to leave?

Slip my hand from your hand
Leave you dancin’ with a ghost
Slip my hand from your hand
Leave you dancin’ with a ghost

Don’t it beat a slow dance to death?
Don’t it beat a slow dance to death?
Don’t it beat a slow dance to death?
Don’t it beat a slow dance to death?
Don’t it beat a slow dance to death?
Don’t it beat a slow dance to death?

Rooftop Dancing, By Sylvan Esso

Concrete, concrete
Shining everywhere
Moonlight’s bright
And the kids don’t care
Meet me at the streetlight
Gonna take you there
Take you rooftop dancing

Slo-mo throwing my body in the air
Making the jump from ledge to ledge
Long hair flying
We’re out of breath
We’re rooftop dancing

Look at, look at, look at
I can see everything
Babies double dutching
Singing their names
Counting off time
Doing their thing

Look at, look at, look at
I can see everything
Babies double dutching
Singing their names
Counting off time
Doing their thing

Sunlight beaming out over the bridge
We’re all running, outrunning death
Summertime breaking but we’re chasing it
Forever rooftop dancing

Concrete, concrete
Shining everywhere
Moonlight’s bright
And the kids don’t care
Meet me at the streetlight
Gonna take you there
Take you rooftop dancing

Rooftop dancing
I’ll take you rooftop dancing

Hallucinate, By Dua Lipa

Pocketful of honey and I’m ready to go
No, I ain’t got no money, but I’m letting you know
But I’ma love you like a fool
Breathe you in ’til I hallucinate, mm
Body make it silly, make it do what I want
Oh baby, I can make it pretty, I can string you along
But I’ma love you like a fool
Breathe you in ’til I hallucinate, mm

No, I couldn’t live without your touch
No, I could never have too much
I’ll breathe you in forever and ever
Hallucinate

I hallucinate when you call my name
Got stars in my eyes
And they don’t fade when you come my way
I’m losing my m-m-m-mind
M-m-m-mind
M-m-m-mind
M-m-m-mind
I hallucinate when you call my name
Got stars in my

Put you in my hall of fame, middle of the wall
Yeah, you’re my one, my favorite, my ride or die, oh
Yeah, I’ma love you like a fool
Breathe you in ’til I hallucinate, mm

No, I couldn’t live without your touch
No, I could never have too much
I’ll breathe you in forever and ever
Hallucinate

I hallucinate when you call my name
Got stars in my eyes
And they don’t fade when you come my way
I’m losing my m-m-m-mind
M-m-m-mind
M-m-m-mind
M-m-m-mind
I hallucinate when you call my name
Got stars in my

Wanna be at where you are
Let’s go dancing in the dark
Don’t wait, you can push to start
Lose control
Kill me slowly with your kiss
Wrap me ‘round your fingertips
Damn, I need another hit
Make me lose my mind

I hallucinate when you call my name
Got stars in my eyes
And they don’t fade when you come my way
I’m losing my m-m-m-mind
M-m-m-mind
M-m-m-mind
M-m-m-mind
I hallucinate when you call my name
Got stars in my

Dark Days, By Local Natives

Finally what you came for
Finally what you hoped to find
Racing home from her house
Looking out for black and white

Dark days in the summer
A million ways to tow the line
Can’t wait holy other
Might as well be the seventh son

Ooh, it goes hand in hand
With fear for the afterlife
Ooh, how can we fight it
Fight it if we don’t even know why?

While the dollar is strong
While nobody else relies
When they turn the corner
When you know we’re out of sight

Dark days in the summer
In the rain the water’s fine
It was wild combination
Either that or right down the line

Ooh, it goes hand in hand
With fear for the afterlife
Ooh, how can we fight it
Fight it if we don’t even know why?

I’ve been on the way, I’ve been on the way
I’ve been on my way for so long
I’ve been on the way, I’ve been on the way
I’ve been on my way for so long

Heavy, California, By Jungle

Running baby, dying’ to meet ya
They all tell me, I don’t need ya now
Running baby, hold on
I’ll be here for you

Just hold me, I’m a lonely heart
You’ve been miles away
Just hold me, I won’t ever get hurt
You’ve been miles away

So heavy, California
I will love you, can’t afford you
They say heaven’s waiting for you
So I’m headed for California

Oh Lord
California

Miss the sunlight, I was saying
Your love is amazing, so hold on to it for me
Come on baby, hold on
I’ll be here for you

So heavy, California
I will love you, can’t afford you
They say heaven’s waiting for you
So I’m headed for California

Oh Lord
California

Just hold me, I’m a lonely heart
You’ve been miles away
Held up at the border
Just hold me, I won’t ever get hurt
You’ve been miles away

So heavy, California
I will love you, can’t afford you
They say heaven’s waiting for you
So I’m headed for California

Oh Lord
California
Oh Lord
California

Dancing On My Own, By Robyn

Somebody said you got a new friend
Does she love you better than I can?
There’s a big black sky over my town
I know where you’re at, I bet she’s around

And yeah, I know it’s stupid
But I just gotta see it for myself

I’m in the corner, watching you kiss her, oh oh oh
I’m right over here, why can’t you see me, oh oh oh
And I’m giving it my all, but I’m not the guy you’re taking home, ooh
I keep dancing on my own

I’m just wanna dance all night
And I’m all messed up, I’m so out of line, yeah
Stilettos and broken bottles
I’m spinning around in circles
And I’m in the corner, watching you kiss her, oh
I’m right over here, why can’t you see me, oh
And I’m giving it my all, but I’m not the guy you’re taking home, ooh
I keep dancing on my own
And oh no

So far away but still so near
The lights come up, the music dies
But you don’t see me standing here
I just came to say goodbye
I’m in the corner, watching you kiss her, oh
And I’m giving it my all, but I’m not the guy you’re taking home, ooh
I keep dancing on my own
And oh no
Sit down in the corner, watching you kiss her, oh no
And I’m right over here, why can’t you see me, oh no
And I’m giving it my all, but I’m not the guy you’re taking home, ooh
I keep dancing on my own

So far away, but still so near
The lights come up, the music dies
But you don’t see me standing here

Pink Skies, By LANY

Thrift store fashion
Imperfect tattoos
Taking showers
Minus shampoo

You are my favorite everything
Been telling girls that since I was 16
Shut up, I love you
You’re my best friend

Get you under pink skies, I know exactly where we should go
’Cause I love the way your green eyes mix with that Malibu indigo
Talkin’ under pink skies, I think our hearts are starting to show
That it’s better, you and I, under pink skies

Underwear, I kinda care
Wanna look good for you
British bomb, you turn me on
No matter what ya do

You are my favorite everything
Been telling you that since 2015
Shut up, I love you
You’re my best friend

Get you under pink skies, I know exactly where we should go
’Cause I love the way your green eyes mix with that Malibu indigo
Talkin’ under pink skies, I think our hearts are starting to show
That it’s better, you and I, under pink skies

We can work it out
You and I are meant to be together
This is how it’s supposed to feel
I’m in love with how this feels

Get you under pink skies, I know exactly where we should go
’Cause I love the way your green eyes mix with that Malibu indigo
Talkin’ under pink skies, I think our hearts are starting to show
That it’s better, you and I, under pink skies

Get you under pink skies, I know exactly where we should go
’Cause I love the way your green eyes mix with that Malibu indigo
Talkin’ under pink skies, I think our hearts are starting to show
That it’s better, you and I, under pink skies

I Thought The Future Would Be Cool, By Yacht

Crowdsourced cults, all lit up on LED:
Next thing you know, you’re sipping on a battery
Infinitely scroll through a SWAT team on the sidewalk
Serving death by remote control and unrestricted sidearms

I thought the future would be cooler
I thought the future would be cooler
I thought the brave world would be newer
I thought the future would be cooler

Loving comes easy (Nothing new)
But liking it ain’t free. (Underneath the sun)

We save our face in public (I can’t save you)
While we erase each other privately. (You’re already gone)

Got my broken heart —
I got it sold right back to me —
By an algorithmic social entity!

I thought the future would be cooler
I thought the brave world would be newer

Looking for the edge of our unrendered world
I don’t know what we’ll find; Oh, here comes tomorrow!

I thought the future would be cooler. (Nothing new)
I thought the future would be cooler. (Underneath the sun)
I thought the brave world would be newer. (I can’t save you)
I thought the future would be cooler. (You’re already gone)

I thought the future would be cooler. (Nothing new)
I thought the future would be cooler. (Underneath the sun)
I thought the brave world would be newer. (I can’t save you)
I thought the future would be cooler. (It’s already gone)

I thought the future would be cooler
