Gettin’ Funky with Cinema 4D & Adobe Aero

Oh, Cinema…how you love to make my life difficult.

We still couldn't get my program up and running for most of this week. My last hail mary was to completely clear out my computer and upgrade my Mac OS operating system. It took me almost an entire day…and still nothing.

SO it was another week of mooching off my friend’s laptop, but it hey, whatever works, right?

The first step was deciding on what to make. In our experience design class this week, we looked at some motion design examples and I was really inspired by Eva Cremers’ work. She makes awesome stuff that is super bright and whimsical. Here’s some of her work:

Like I said, super bright and has a great personality to it! I spent hours on her Instagram this week, and I wanted to pull some inspiration from her for my project.

I obviously don’t have anywhere near her skills, so I scoured YouTube for a good tutorial. I came across this really awesome, trippy-looking fan, so I thought I would make that and then use Aero to place it in my condo for a whimsical AR look.

The fan was actually pretty easy to make and I’m super happy with how it turned out!

Then came importing it into Adobe Aero, and since technical difficulties seem to follow me everywhere I go…I had tons of problems trying to get it to work.

I followed RJ’s tutorial exactly, baked all the frames, and exported it into an FBX file. I couldn't open the file to preview it for some reason, and when I exported it into Aero, the settings got messed up somehow. I tried it both on my phone and my computer, and both ways it looked wrong.

I also tried to see if I could at least get the animation to work, but the fan wouldn’t spin correctly.

I tried everything I could think of to get it uploaded right, but I just couldn’t get it.

I think I might have some settings issues on Cinema 4D that’s causing the problem, but I’m not sure what to look for. As for now, I’m kind of stuck.

I’m really hoping I can get through our next project without any technical difficulties. Let’s all say a silent prayer.
